Welcome letter

Dear Applicant

Thank you very much for your interest in the post of Medical Director at Sussex Partnership NHS Foundation Trust. This post has become vacant due to a retirement, with the previous post holder being in role for over 9 years. In this role you will work closely with me in my role as Chief Medical Officer, providing medical leadership and direction for the Trust to ensure the ongoing delivery of high quality services.

I will continue to represent the Medical Directorate at Board level and I am looking for someone with strong values, outstanding communication skills and an ability to lead. This role will suit a senior colleague looking to progress into senior medical management and organisational leadership. We have a number of Associate Medical Directors who hold various roles within the Medical Directorate including Quality Improvement, Clinical Information and Appraisals/Revalidation so you would be part of a strong and supportive team.

To be successful in the role you will need to be an experienced clinical or professional leader, with the skills to develop and maintain effective partnerships with stakeholders in the redesign of services. You will have great people skills and have the ability to motivate and engage staff.

Utilising these skills you will contribute to strategic planning and delivery of our Clinical Strategy from a medical perspective which will include active involvement in recruitment and retention of medical staff and working with colleagues to embed a Just Culture within the organisation when it comes to managing any complaints or concerns. The Medical Director will also work with the Care Delivery Service senior management in the operational management of medical staff across the Trust as well as being the Deputy Responsible Officer and taking a day to day lead on this important function.

Our staff are our most valuable asset, therefore we strive to ensure they are well supported to do their job and also to develop personally and professionally. Our medical workforce forms an integral part of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT). We are creating flexible roles that enable individuals, not only to provide important core services, but also to pursue their interests such as teaching, research or management.

Our values are important to us and guide us in our work. We have chosen Quality Improvement as our improvement methodology across the Trust and this is underpinned by a culture of fairness, equality, compassionate leadership and accountability.

If this sounds like the kind of organisation where you would like to work, or if you would like to find out more about us, please do get in touch with our search partner Harvey Nash. We look forward to receiving your application and meeting you in due course.

Best wishes

Dr Rick Fraser
Chief Medical Officer
