Welcome letter

Dear Candidate,

Appointment of Chief Financial Officer
Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Thank you for your interest in this opportunity to join the board of Norfolk & Norwich NHS Foundation Trust as our new Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is an exciting and challenging time for our Trust and STP, and the appointment of a new CFO to join our new Chair and Chief Executive is a critical one.

Our Trust is the largest provider in Norfolk and one of the busiest Trusts in the country with an annual turnover of approximately £600m, and our 8,000 staff provide services to a geographically dispersed population carrying out nearly one million outpatient appointments, day case procedures and inpatient admissions annually across Norfolk and North Suffolk. We have over 130,000 attendances per year in our Emergency Department and also treat referred patients from further afield who come to access our specialist services including: oncology and radiotherapy, neonatology, trauma and orthopaedics and many others. We have strong links with the University of East Anglia with a focus on teaching and research, and have been selected to run a regional branch of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) Clinical Research Networks.

Our vision is to provide every patient with the care we want for those we love the most and our PRIDE Vales guide the behaviour of everything we do. We have a compelling five-year strategic plan that we are three years into, and are confident that a platform for success has been laid. We believe we have established stronger clinical leadership and an open and collaborative leadership culture that supports clinical and operational improvement not just at Norfolk & Norwich University Hospitals but across our STP, In Good Health.

However, there is still much to be done and both our Trust and the Norfolk and Waveney STP are in financial difficulty. Many opportunities exist on the horizon, but in order to deliver against these and support our vision we need to have a strategically focussed Board of Directors to provide vision and leadership to our staff and engage effectively with our governors, stakeholders and partner organisations, and attracting the right CFO to our leadership team is vital.

We are interested in senior level strategic finance experts from a wide range of sectors to provide professional leadership to our Board and all financial staff, while contributing to the wider strategic organisational agenda. We are interested in your experience at Board or sub-Board level in a highly complex and regulated setting, your ability to form strong partnerships and develop relationships with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, and your commitment to developing system wide solutions to the challenges facing our Trust, including greater integration and developing new models of care. Whether your experience has been gained inside or outside of the NHS, you will act as a role model for our values and vision, embodying a compassionate leadership style and will be a committed and motivated Board member with a desire to make a real difference to our community.

I hope that you feel inspired to join the Board at this exciting time in the Trust’s development.

Yours faithfully,

David White
